The ‘Clean Water Modelling Advisory Group’
CwMAG is an organisation focused on advancing best practices and knowledge sharing within the field of clean water hydraulic modelling.
The Clean Water Modelling Advisory Group (CwMAG) was established in 2011 to serve as an independent platform for water network modelers to collaborate and share expertise. Its creation was inspired by the success of a similar group for wastewater modelling, which had been operating for over two decades and provided substantial value to the water industry. CwMAG was initiated through a collaboration of professionals from both water companies and consulting firms, mirroring the model of WaPUG (Wastewater Planning Users Group), now known as the CIWEM Urban Drainage Group.

Aims & Objectives
The key aims of the organisation is to advance the science and practice of clean water modelling for the public benefit by:
- Providing a forum for clean water modelling professionals to share operational best practice
- Educating clean water modelling professionals, water delivery service agencies and the public by holding events, operating a website and disseminating useful learning
For the purpose of this clause ‘clean water modelling’ means the use of mathematical models, usually computer based, of a potable water supply network to analyse the system’s hydraulic behaviour, to determine the effect of any changes and investigate remedial measures and improvements.

How to Join
CwMAG welcomes new and prospective membership enquiries on behalf of individuals who have an active interest in clean water network modelling. Membership to CwMAG is free on the basis that we are a ‘not-for profit’ organisation, although member companies are expected to sponsor the activities of the group to ensure operational costs are covered.
Our existing member organisations include UK water companies, water consultancy firms, regulatory and research organisations and other academic institutions. Companies are able to nominate members from their organisations, but voting rights are restricted to one per member company to ensure fairness and prevent any one organisation dominating the result.
